dc.description.abstract This paper investigates the issue of English for Specific Purposes (ESP). It defines ESP with attentive attempts to highlight the line of demarcation between ESP and EAP. Moreover, it will endeavor the objectives of the core course of ESP at the tertiary level. Furthermore, how we should mobilize all the efforts to overcome the difficulties to promote the students communicative competency in English language in their very field of the specialization. This paper has been guided by the following questions: a. What are the ESP needs of the students studying at Sudanese universities? b. What is the proficiency level of English of the students studying at Sudanese universities? c. What are the preferred learning styles (LS) and assessment techniques of the students studying at Sudanese universities? d. What course material will best fulfill their present ESP needs? The paper followed the descriptive method and used the primary and secondary sources for collecting data. The study found that: materials designed for ESP should be based on needs analysis, modifications for the courses should be made according to the development of the students’ needs and effective implementation of these courses . en_US
