Abstract:
This study is meant to study how first language sound systems can influence the acquiring of second language sounds (Arabic as first language and English as second language) at Al-imam Al-mahdi University, faculty of Arts (English language department) fourth class students, and to determine the real aspect of second language sounds that affect by first language sounds, more special it investigates the interference process from L1 sounds into L2 sounds system.
The researcher used questionnaire for collecting the data of the study, which distributed to (10) students whom are speaking Arabic as their first language.
The results of this study demonstrate that Arab learners of English as a second language unintentionally come with their first language sounds.
Results also shows that the major reason of l2 sounds influenced by l1 sounds is the matter of l1 interference.
