Dyslipidemia is the most common metabolic abnormality in PCOS, although the type and extent of findings have not been defined. Women with PCOS are at an increased risk for cardiovascular diseases. They share many features regarding the metabolic syndrome associated with polycystic ovaries. The study aimed to estimate lipid parameters among ladies with polycystic ovaries syndrome attending teaching hospital of Kosti. Blood samples were collected after obtaining verbal consent from cases and controls. Serum lipids were estimated by enzymatic. Result: Serum TC, TG, LDL, VLDL, TC/HDL, LDL/HDL values were elevated were significantly higher in cases than in controls. Conclusion: Dyslipidemia seemed to be one of the main factors contributing to an increased risk of coronary artery disease in patients with PCOS. Recommendation: Further studies are however required with higher number of cases to confirm the contribution of polycystic ovarian syndrome. Key Words: Polycystic ovary syndrome, lipid profile | en_US |
