Effects of Educational Program on Nurses’ Knowledge Regarding Care of Patients with Hip Fracture in White Nile State Governmental Hospitals and Omdurman Military
E. Suliman, El Tagi; F. Mukhtar, Hayat
Background: Hip fractures are common injuries affecting the proximal femur of hip
joint. In Sudan, hip fracture remains a huge problem and concerns many Sudanese
families the costs of her surgeries are very expensive, and they depletes country a lot
of resources, and it is causes are due to road traffic accident and gunshots among the
military . The Nurses are playing vital role regarding care of patient with hip fracture
through over caring. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of
educational program on nurses' knowledge regard care of patient with hip fracture.
Objective: To outline the effects of educational program on nurses’ knowledge
regarding care of patients with hip fracture in White Nile State Governmental
Hospital and Omdurman Military Hospital.
Materials and Methods: A Quasi-experimental study was done for nurses (N=70),
whom they are work in White Nile governmental hospitals and Omdurman military
hospital. Selection was done purposive total coverage; knowledge of nurses was
assessed by structural questionnair222\e. The collected data was analyzed by (SPSS)
version 24.
Results: Most of study sample has moderate knowledge by 52% with mean and
standard deviation (67.3 += 19.4) in pretest and improved to become good
knowledgeable after intervention of the program by 72% with mean and standard
deviation (78.3 += 13.1). 67.1% don’t receive any training program regard hip
fracture so the study group had moderate knowledge .the study found significant
statistical association between knowledge pre and post program by p value (0.00) also
the study found there is no significant statistical association between knowledge and
years of experience by p value (0.216).
Conclusion: The study indicated that the educational programs were effective in increasing
knowledge of study group.

Introduction
Hip fracture poses a significant global challenge both to healthcare systems and to
patients themselves. There were 1.31 million hip fractures in 1990, a figure predi

The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of extended-spectrum β-lactamases (ESBLs) in uropathogenic E. coli isolates. A total of 100 E. coli isolates were obtained, among which 43(43%) and 57(57%) were collected from male and female, respectively. Also the distribution of these samples among age group were children 14 (14%), adult 41 (41%) and geriatric 45(45%). All isolates were screened and confirmed for the presence of ESBL phenotypically with Double Disk Synergy Test, and tested for their susceptibility to non Beta-lactam antibiotics. Among the 100 E. coli isolates, only 35% were judged as ESBLs-positive strains. The frequency of ESBLs production was not significantly different among gender as their frequency were 30%(13/43) in male and 38%(22/57) in female; and among age as their frequency were 29%(4/14) in children, 34%(14/41) in adult and 37% (17/45) in geriatric. ESBLS producer E. coli were significantly more resistant to Ciprofloxacin, Nitrofurontoin, Gentamycin and Tetracycline. Also Most ESBLs producing E. coli isolates were still susceptible to Impenem, Nitrofurontion Gentamycin and Amikacin. Our results suggest that the frequency of ESBLs among uropathogenic E. coli is currently in progress in Sudan, and there for further studies is needed.

Objectives: Current study aimed to evaluate blood counts among blood donors attending Kosti hospital blood bank.
Methodology: This cross sectional descriptive study was performed at the blood bank of Kosti teaching hospital during December 2014-Febrauray 2015 and aimed to determine the haematological parameters of blood donors. One hundred donors were chosen randomly to participate in this study. Venous blood (2.5ml) was obtained from each individual into an EDTA container. The full blood count (FBC) was done for each donor, using fully automated haematology analyzer (Sysmex). Peripheral blood film for morphology was done using Giemsa stain.
Results: Results showed that haemoglobin concentration was normal in 55% of the donors, less than the normal in 43% and above the normal in 2% of studied group. RBCs were 70% normal, 4% lower than normal and 26% higher than normal. 78% of the donor showed WBC within normal range and the remaining 18% were lower than normal. Platelets counts in donors were 90% normal, 8% low and 2% high. The Haematocrit values were 87% normal, 7% low and 6% high. The MCV in donors was 74% normal and 26% low. MCH value was 2% normal, 97%low and 1%high. The MCHC was 3%normal and 93% low.
Conclusion: There is considerable number of donors with haemoglobin concentrations lower than normal as well as lower red blood cells indices. Thus full blood count should be incorporated in evaluating blood donors to insure both good quality of blood and safety of the donors.

Background: The number of inappropriate prescriptions for
sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in Sudan is suspected to
be high. Simple multifaceted interventions directed at
prescribers may improve prescribing patterns in the Sudan.
Objective: To evaluate the effect of multifaceted interventions
on prescribing for STIs in the White Nile State, Sudan.
Methods: The study involved 20 health centres randomly
assigned to four different multifaceted interventions to
improve prescribing.
Results: Prescriber targeted interventions involving audit and
feedback together with academic detailing and practice
guidelines reduced the number of inappropriate prescriptions
by 50% (p,0.001). Audit and feedback together with
seminars and practice guidelines reduced inappropriate
prescriptions by 43% (p,0.001). Audit and feedback alone
reduced inappropriate prescriptions by 16% (p = 0.127).
Conclusion: Prescribing for STIs in the White Nile State of
Sudan needs improving. Multifaceted interventions appear
effective in improving prescribing.
