Prevalence of non alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) in patients of diabetes mellitus, diabetes with hypertension and diabetes with coronary artery disease in referred clinic in Kosti Teaching Hospital from 1/2/2019 to 1/10/2019
Mohammed Osman, Mussa Mohammedein
Background: The aim of this study is to find if there is relation between
age, sex, duration of disease or residence in the prevalence of non alcoholic
fatty liver disease (NAFLD) among diabetics, diabetes associated with
coronary artery disease and diabetes associated with hypertensive ill patients
in referred clinic of Kosti Teaching Hospital.
Methods: This is a prospective hospital based study. The study was
performed in Kosti city- White Nile State. The study population comprises
diabetics, diabetes associated with hypertension and diabetes associated with
coronary artery disease whom are randomly selected from medicine referred
clinic of Kosti Teaching Hospital. The study was conducted in the period
between 1/2/2019 to 1/10/2019.
Results: The incidence of fatty liver in three categories is related to the age
of the patient. There is remarkable increase in developing fatty liver mainly
in patients of old ages. The gender variation in fatty liver patients reveals
high predominance of females in diabetes, mild predominance of females in
diabetes with hypertension and no gender variation in diabetes in diabetes
associated with coronary artery disease. Fatty liver encountered in patients
from rural areas mainly in diabetes and diabetes associated with
hypertension, but in diabetes with coronary artery disease, patients from
Kosti area are highly represented. The prevalence of fatty liver increase with
the duration of diabetes mellitus.
Conclusion: Based on the findings with the present study, the prevalence of
non alcoholic fatty liver disease in diabetes mellitus is related to age, sex,
residence and duration of disease.
